Project Objectives

Project Objectives

Identify a significant organization, cause, social issue, concern, policy position, cultural outrage, social mandate or something worthy of attention and action, learn everything there is to learn about the windmill at which you will tilt, in all of its complexity — no simplistic or reductive thinking allowed — the world is a composition of messy shades of gray. Consider carefully how your skills as a form maker, storyteller and inventor can be brought to bear in order to transform an existing situation into a preferred one, create a meaningful, significant, adaptive and durable solution to the challenge you have identified, and document your selection, research methods, analysis, findings and design outcomes in such a way that others can understand your thinking, choices and results.

Our Mission

Our Mission

We respect the intimate understanding of the bond

and partnership formed between animals and humans, and the need for action to save endangered animals. We believe education and preservation efforts will ensure that people will able to experience the joy and wonder of the Asian elephant for generations to come.

Our History

Our History

Since 1993, Endangered Ark Foundation has sought

to preserve the extremely endangered Asian Elephant. After more than six decades of caring, working with, and living with their elephants and other animals, D.R. & Isla Miller and his family established the Endangered Ark Foundation.

Our Founders

Our Founders

The Foundation was established in 1993 by DR & Isla

Miller to help preserve the endangered Asian elephant species. The Miller Family’s EAF elephant herd is one of the largest in the United States. Their herd consists of 15 Asian elephants in all, with 13 females and 2 males. They range in age from Dori Marie, the youngest baby, who was born in July 2015 to the matriarch of the herd Suzy, who is 65. According to current statistics there are between 35,000 and 45,000 Asian elephants on earth. As of 2000, there were only 285 captive elephants in North America and only 35 of these are breeders.

My experience at the The Endangered Ark Foundation was truly unique. I got to learn about, observe, feed, and interact with asian elephants. While what EAF offers as is really amazing the experience has room for improvement. The look and feel of the facility are very disjointed and a little confusing at points, which is why I decided too focus on three main aspects of the overall experience

With these three aspects improved the whole experience could be elevated.

Consistent branding (logo, colors, and type)

Signage (indoor and postcards)

Navigation (finding the entrance is very conusing)

Wow that looks great!

Wow that looks great!

To start the project off I created a new logo for

EAF. I decided to stick with the square format

like the logo that they use most often. I

changed up the type and added lines around

the elephants to give the logo more o a crafty

feel while still looking polished. After I had a

logo decided I created a color palette and

typeface for EAF to use for all of its branding

and merchandise. I wanted these colors to feel

earthy but also fun and with an asian influence.

In order to improve the indoor signage

and merchandise I created two sample posters

and two sample postcards. For these materials

I wanted to keep them simple while still

showing off how fun and exciting EAF is. The

last part of this project that I worked on was

navigation. In order to improve this I thought

of creating concrete stepping stones placed on

the path to the entrance so patrons can follow

the steps to where they are supposed to go.

Overall I believe that the overall experience at The Endangered Ark Foundation is improved by the work that I did, however this could be proven by a simple survey sent to customers with their tickets asking which they liked better in a side by side comparison. This survey could also ask returning customers about the improved navigation.
